Jacqui Dodson, owner of jdai, has been working in Austin since 1992. She received her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. While completing her degree at KU, Jacqui interned for three years with Stan Hernly Architects in Lawrence, working on residential, small commercial and ecclesiastical projects.
Upon arriving in Austin, Jacqui started working for The Bommarito Group, which later became the interiors department of Graeber, Simmons & Cowan. There, Jacqui’s experience included working on projects for various High Tech corporate clients including Advanced Micro Devices, Applied Materials, Alien Technology and Sun Microsystems as well as interior finish out for various properties for Equity Office and Lincoln Property Company, The Lance Armstrong Foundation and GSBT Law Firm. Jacqui was promoted very quickly to Associate and Senior Associate before leaving for an opportunity at STG in Austin.
As Studio Director, Jacqui managed projects ranging in size from very small to full building finish out. Projects there included the corporate offices of Texas Association of School Boards, Texas Law Center for the State Bar of Texas, Best Software and Spa Reveil. Jacqui also managed a large portfolio of Building Representation and Tenant Improvement work for REIT Management, Carr America and Lincoln Property Company.
After 4 years with the STG family, Jacqui moved to SHW Group, to focus on environments for learning. During her time there, Jacqui had the opportunity to work on the Science and Technology Learning Center at the University of Texas at Brownsville, an Adult learning center at the Brookhaven campus of Dallas Community College, Smithson Valley High School and Canyon High School, both in Canyon School District, Marble Falls Administration Conversion and Falls Career High School in Marble Falls. She also had the opportunity to work on the Autism Treatment Center in San Antonio, Texas and Angelo State University Library remodel in San Angelo, Texas.
Jacqui is an active member of the Austin design community as well as the Austin community at large. She serves on the board of the Austin Foundation for Architecture and is a past president of AIA Austin as well as former TAC Trustee, Texas Architect's Political Action Committee. Jacqui has also volunteered extensively with UpLift Austin, an organization dedicated to teaching at risk youth about the value of good design and about sustainability in our built environment through full-semester curricula and also has volunteered on the USGBC LEED for Schools committee.
